Frankie Manning

Frankie Manning, surely the greatest legend in Lindy Hop, passed away on 27th April 2009, just prior to his 95th birthday.

To those of us who had the privilege of being taught by him, dancing with him, or simply hearing his infectious laugh, Frankie embodied everything wonderful about Lindy Hop.  He will be sorely missed by the many thousands of friends and admirers he has met during his active life, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

Several ESDS members had arranged to be in New York to help him celebrate his birthday, along with over a thousand other dancers from around the world, but will instead be joining with them in commemorating the life of a legend, a gentleman, and a true ambassador of Lindy Hop.  For just one of many examples of his artistry (when he was a sprightly 92), try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEUF8La2N54
